“LOL” Is Now Acceptable For Use In Newspaper Quotes.

While casually waking up this morning and reading a few “headlines,” one that seems to be making the rounds today was of the James Bond variety- mixing that with the recent Obama variety. The Daily News asks, who would you like to see as the first black James Bond? Fair enough for a slow news day. And great that they profile Stringer Bell as top dog.

But maybe I was still groggy or annoyed that I was awake, but something in the last paragraph of the article struck me as particularly disturbing. The out quote, which I’m guessing was clearly via an email interview, reads like this:

Kevin Jones thinks Will Smith or Denzel Washington could handle 007, but that Jamie Foxx is “more cocky than cool.” He also likes some young blood: Shemar Moore, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Djimon Hounsou, Derek Luke and Michael Ealy.

“I hope this does happen,” added Jones. “I just hope they come up with a solid script. LOL.”

I hope I get to someday interview someone who says “ELL oH ELL.” What’s next, a magazine called “OMG”? Oh, wait, Yahoo did that.
