R.I.P. Merl

R.I.P. Merl Saunders. I saw Merl play in a teenie, tiny club in Blacksburg, Virginia in the late 90’s…I’m thinking it was 98 or so, and it was great. He was full of life and a wiz on the keys. Also, memorable- Merl coming to town was the thing that everyone talked about for at least five weeks. He made small towns feel important, even as he was getting up there in age.
